2020 Cancer Survivors Day Parade
This year’s National Cancer Survivors Day is June 7. Cancer survivors and their families will be rejoicing all across our nation celebrating survivorship, and the battle they have or are still fighting with this far to common disease. During a normal year, the NEA Baptist Fowler Family Center for Cancer Care would be hosting a huge party (which would obviously include lots of hugs) and allowing survivors and families to celebrate together with our wonderful medical team. COVID-19 has caused a change of plans. This year we will celebrate area survivors with a unique Cancer Survivors’ Day Parade on the NEA Baptist Hospital Campus from 2-3 p.m. Please join us, as we honor those who have conquered, or are managing their cancer diagnosis.
Everyone will enter the campus at the South entrance. Survivors will be directed to park in the survivors parking lot. They will stay in their cars while masked and gloved volunteers bring them their Cancer Survivors Day t-shirt and a boxed lunch graciously provided by Chris Fowler. The program, featuring messages from physicians, survivors and cancer center staff, will be broadcast on 92.7 FM, 103.3 FM and 99.3 FM. Following the program, survivors will be directed to the parade route, behind Grand Marshals Wallace & Jama Fowler. Following the parade, everyone will exit out the south entrance of the campus.
We are also needing community members and volunteers to line the parade route (socially distanced of course) to help celebrate and cheer our cancer survivors as they parade around the campus in their cars. If you are joining us for this important job, please enter our campus at the South entrance as well and follow the directions to the Cheerleader/Supporter parking area. You will be handed a mask and program showing the parade route. Please make your way to a spot along the route and prepare to loudly cheer and celebrate our survivors as they drive by. We would love for you to bring signs and noisemakers to make this a fun and festive time as we help area wide cancer survivors feel special and appreciated.
Survivors, family members, caregivers & friends…… We want you all to join us as we strive to make Cancer Survivors’ Day, 2020 a special day in the lives of all our brave survivors. We hope to see you on June 7 at 2:00 to help make this happen.
